Team performs 800th Watchman implant at KDMC
UK King's Daughters structural heart team performed its 800th Watchman implant on Friday, Feb. 21.
The Watchman device dramatically reduces the risk of stroke in individuals with non-valvular atrial fibrillation by blocking the left atrial appendage of the heart, an area where blood clots typically form. This allows many patients to discontinue blood thinners, giving them a better quality of life.
The team performing the 800th implantation included, from left: structural cardiologist Mohammed Hasan Khan, M.D.; Katherine Fass, Watchman/Boston Scientific; Caleigh O'Neal, BSN; Lauren Browning, RT(R) CI; and Beth Fouch, RN. Also pictured, Alissa Parr, Boston Scientific; April Melvin, APRN; and cardiac electrophysiologist Pratap Singh, M.D.
For more information about the Watchman device and whether it might be right for you, ask your cardiologist or call our Structural Heart office at (606) 408-2550.
