Foot & Ankle
The feet are engineering marvels, accounting for 25 percent of the bones in the human body. Yet, we often pay no attention to them at all … until something goes wrong. Feet and ankles need to be cared for just like every other part of your body. That’s especially true when you consider that nearly everything you want to do in life involves your feet and ankles in one way or another: standing, walking, running, hiking, climbing… even driving!
Whether you are a high-level athlete, a weekend warrior, or a “regular” person, pain and injury to the feet and ankles is very common. The medical specialists who treat problems affecting the feet and ankles are called podiatrists. Many podiatrists – although not all – offer both medical and surgical treatments for foot and ankle problems.
Podiatry at King’s Daughters includes treatment of a wide range of problems, including:
- Arthritis
- Broken bones
- Calluses
- Corns
- Fallen arches
- Gait problems
- Hammer toe
- Heel pain
- Ingrown toenails
- Plantar fasciitis
- Sprains
- Spurs
Diabetes-related conditions
Foot problems can be especially problematic for those with diabetes. Many diabetes-related complications, such as poor circulation and nerve damage, show up in the feet in the form of sores and wounds, infections, calluses and extremely dry skin. Unattended, these issues can lead to serious complications, including lower-extremity amputation.
