Sandeep KrishnanKing’s Daughters is pleased to announce the appointment of Sandeep Krishnan, MD, FACC, as director of the Structural Heart Disease and Heart Failure programs at King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Structural heart disease specialists are trained in closing atrial septal defects; performing heart valve repairs and replacements; treating hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy; and isolating the left atrial appendage to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. They utilize cutting-edge, minimally invasive techniques to treat these and many other conditions.

Krishnan completed his fellowship in interventional cardiology and structural/valvular heart disease at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, where he served as chief fellow. During his cardiovascular diseases fellowship at the top-ranked Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute, he was selected for the coveted and highly prestigious ACC/Merck fellowship which allowed him to perform cutting edge research to help predict heart attacks before they happen. Krishnan graduated suma cum laude from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and completed internal medicine residency with distinction at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.

Krishnan is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certifications in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, he holds certifications in CT and nuclear cardiology from the Council for Certification in Cardiovascular Imaging; vascular ultrasound interpretation from the Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement; and in comprehensive adult echocardiography from the American Society of Echocardiography.

Krishnan was recently awarded the American College of Cardiology’s Excellence in Advocacy Award. He was also featured in the ACC’s Cardiology magazine and website for his work in designing and operating a fully functional echocardiography clinic in the Himalayan Mountains of India.

Krishnan holds several leadership positions within the American College of Cardiology including serving on the Health Affairs Committee, the Board of Trustees Medical Malpractice Working Group, and the PAC Advisory Council.

When he is not busy with teaching or doing procedures, Krishnan enjoys rock climbing, playing the piano, and swimming. He is a voracious reader and accomplished writer as well.

Prior to joining King’s Daughters, Krishnan was an interventional and structural cardiologist at the St. John Heart and Vascular Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Krishnan joins the team at KDMS Cardiology and will provide care for patients in Ashland, Ky.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO YOUR CAREER?: I have always been a people person and I could not think of a better way to serve my fellow Americans than by healing the sick. It is an honor and privilege to do my job and I am humbled by it on a daily basis.

FIRST JOB: Organ procurement technician (I used to wake up in the middle of the night to procure life-saving organs for patients who needed transplants)

FAMILY: My lovely fiancee, Piriyah. We are getting married on May 6, 2020! I also am close to my brother’s family and 5-year-old adorable nephew, Kairav, who lives in California.

FAVORITE TV SHOW: I enjoy comedy shows like Scrubs but appreciate a good Netflix drama like Ozarks or Breaking Bad!
