As part of Nurses Week, King's Daughters accepted nominations for the inaugural Bev Coleman Nursing Excellence Award, which recognizes a nurse who has exhibited the highest levels of nursing excellence and has positively influenced the nursing culture including:
- Positivity in the face of adversity
- Empathy
- Grace
- Selflessness
Today, Vicki Cossett, a dedicated registered nurse in the Mother Baby Unit, received the award.
She was nominated by nurse leader Janet Woods, who writes: Vicki truly loves what she does and it shows. Her coworkers call her “Jiminy Cricket” because she lovingly mothers them. Her patients and families love her because she cares for them as if they were her own daughters.
When you think of qualities you could want or wish for in a nurse, you will find Vicki. She exemplifies all characteristics of nursing excellence. She would never consider herself a person to be recognized because she is genuine. The care she provides is real. Just like Bev, the shift is better when Vicki is there.
