Applications accepted for teen volunteer program

King’s Daughters Teen Volunteer Program is accepting applications for its summer program. Volunteering at King’s Daughters is an excellent opportunity for teens to earn service/volunteer hours that can help them stand out during the college admissions/scholarship process. Teen volunteers must be at least 16 years old on or before June 1, 2017. The upper age limit is 18.

There are two types of volunteer opportunities available: Service/Community-Based and Child-Development Center.

Those participating in the Service/Community-Based program will provide support to various community activities, including National Cancer Survivors Day; Summer Motion; Glow Run/Color Splash; Red Cross blood drives; the Boyd County Fair; and service at The Dressing Room.

Schedules are based on the teen’s interests and availability. Orientation/TB testing is not required and teens receive a free T-shirt to wear when working events. Teens are informed of upcoming events via email from their team leader.

The Child-Development Center program requires teens to:

• Commit to working at least one four-hour morning shift (8 a.m. to noon) per week.
• Undergo a TB skin test (at hospital expense)
• Successfully complete a Central Registry background check (at hospital expense)

Volunteer opportunities are limited; applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and are due no later than 5 p.m. Friday, April 7. The application must be completed and signed by both the teen and a parent/guardian.
