Red Cross blood drive returns to KDMC on Aug. 21
The American Red Cross blood drive returns to King’s Daughters on Monday, Aug. 21. Hours are 12:30 to 6 p.m. The blood drive takes place in the Health Education Center at KDMC, lower level, Lexington Avenue Parking Garage.
The drive coincides with a time of urgent need throughout the U.S. Summer is typically a period of lower donations as people vacation but greater demand. According to the Red Cross, blood is being distributed to hospitals as fast as it is being donated.
“The blood supply is like a cell phone battery, it constantly need recharging,” said Nick Gehrig, communications director for Red Cross Blood Services. “We sincerely appreciate those who have responded to the call to help save lives and encourage those who haven’t to consider rolling up a sleeve and give the gift of life. It only takes about an hour but can mean a lifetime for patients.”
As a special thank-you, between July 26 and Aug. 31, donors will receive a $5 Target eGiftCard that can be used either online or in store. Appointments can be made on the American Red Cross website, redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
