King's Daughters physicians move into leadership roles

King’s Daughters is pleased to announce four physicians are moving into leadership roles as chief medical officers at the medical center.
“I believe King’s Daughters’ future is dependent on increased physician participation in all levels of leadership,” said King’s Daughters president/CEO Kristie Whitlatch. “As King’s Daughters takes its journey to become a clinically integrated network, I believe additional physician leaders will be integral in helping us develop the strategies to best serve our communities.”
The four chief medical officers are:
Sam Adams, M.D. – chief medical officer, King’s Daughters Ashland inpatient medicine services. He will have oversight in the following areas:
- Hospitalists
- Intensivists
- Behavioral medicine
- Inpatient pediatrics
- Emergency medicine
- All other departments in the Department of Medicine
Mark Detherage, M.D. – chief medical officer/chief integration officer. He will lead the following system initiatives:
- Population health
- Patient centered medical homes
- Primary care network
- Outpatient pediatrics
- Payor strategies/value-based purchasing initiatives
Richard Ford, M.D. – chief medical officer, King’s Daughters Ashland procedural and surgical services. He will provide oversight to the following areas:
- Inpatient/outpatient surgery
- Heart and vascular services
- OB/GYN
- All other services in the Department of Surgery
Terry Welsh, M.D. – chief medical officer, King’s Daughters Ohio and King’s Daughters Integrated Practices. He will provide leadership and direction to:
- King’s Daughters Ohio – all services
- King’s Daughters Integrated Practices
- Physician Advisory Committee
- Integrated Practices infrastructure for the future
These physicians were selected for their outstanding clinical practice, diverse background and commitment to King’s Daughters and the patients it serves, said Whitlatch. All four physicians will be part of the strategic team and will participate on King’s Daughters’ Board of Directors and all board committees.
